Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be in Russia to instruct you?

No. We work with clients abroad by video call and email. A notarised power of attorney is usually enough for us to act, and it can be issued at a Russian consulate in your country or apostilled and translated at home.

Can I sign the engagement letter in English?

We prepare a bilingual engagement letter with Russian and English columns. The Russian text governs, because Russian courts and banks work with it, but you sign a document you can actually read.

Will the court accept documents in English?

No. Russian courts accept documents in Russian, and foreign documents need a certified translation, plus an apostille or consular legalisation depending on your country. We arrange this as part of the matter.

How do I pay from abroad?

Payment is made to our Russian bank account in roubles. Cross-border transfers from some countries are restricted, so we agree the route before the work starts rather than after.

Can a foreign company own a Russian entity?

Yes, with sector-specific exceptions and additional filings. Some activities are restricted for foreign-controlled companies, and the structure affects both tax and reporting, so this is worth discussing before registration, not after.

Do you handle visas and work permits?

We advise on the legal side of employing foreign nationals and on the documents an employer must hold. Visa processing itself is handled by the migration authorities, and we tell you honestly where our work ends.

What does the free consultation actually cover?

Up to fifteen minutes online on one question: whether you have a case, what the likely route is and what it would cost. It is not a written opinion, but it is enough to decide whether to go further.

Is everything I tell you confidential?

Yes. Client information is confidential under Russian law and under our engagement letter, and it is not disclosed to third parties without your instruction.
